Shipping my bike for Lavaman

Afternoon all,

I am in the proces of researching my options for shipping my bike to Kona for the Lavaman tri in March. I see that TriBike Transport (via speedy reddy) will take care of everything for merely $290, but are there are less expensive and semi-hassle free options that any of you have done...specifically to Kona

By the way, is anyone participating in the Lavaman next month? Any words of wisdom

Thanks
Dave

Re: Shipping my bike for Lavaman

Make sure you are fully insured for damage, loss, etc. and it includes full replacement should Pele turn your steed into dust....

I've packed my own bike and shipped via UPS to Kona at least 10 times without a problem and the cost was between $120-150 with insurance (both ways). Give it at least 7 days if you choose the cheapest cost which is ground (they actually ship by ground to Kona now which means it goes by truck to LA and then on a plane).

Have a great time, Lavaman is a fun event. There is a large group from Seattle Team in Training that goes each year.

Ciao,

Tim

Thanks for the info!

Where in Kona are you shipping to and do you typically drop off the bike at the same location?

Re: Shipping my bike for Lavaman

I have shipped directly to the timeshare office and let them know it was coming. They put it in a room for me until I arrived. Hotels are also good about receiving shipments if they know you are a guest.

The UPS office is at the Airport in Kona for return shipments.

Good luck and have a great race.
